Back to: Stance in a SnowPlow
- In order to ski in a snow plow and link your turns, you should start with a stance where your skis are parallel and shoulder width apart.
- Next, feel both feet turn towards each other to bring the ski tips closer together (NOTE: Do not brush the heels away from each other as it will produce a stance that is too far behind your feet)
- As both feet are turns into each other, your skis will form a wedge shape on the snow. Maintain this effort to keep the skis in this formation
- As you slide down the hill, point both feet in the direction you wish to travel.
- To LINK your turns from one to the next, after you have steered both feet in one direction, Relax and allow both skis to point more down the slope (We call this the Fall-Line). As your skis point more turn the hill into the Fall-Line, begin steering both feet in the opposite direction to turn the other way.
- Continue this pattern to create Linked Snow Plow Turns.
THINK: Wedge, Steer, Relax, Repeat…
MEASURE: Able to maintain a smaller wedge and turn in both directions with ease. It’s the “lower” body that’s doing the turning and not involving the upper body.
